Training Session #9 & #10

Training Session #10

The boys spent this morning working on their dives and streamline skills.

I showed them this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxrYJf48s-4 before the start of the session to highlight the importance of good technique in their streamlines. Although the swimmer in the video got disqualified, his amazing streamline skills enabled him to beat his competitors!

Training Session #9

On Friday morning the boys completed their race warm-up and then a time trial in Freestyle and a stroke of their choice. I was very impressed with those who chose to do Butterfly as their stroke of choice! Most of the boys swam better than expected, but hopefully their times continue to improve!

to all the wonderful parents …

Hi Parents & Swimmers,

Well the mornings are warming up and numbers are steady at training, which is fantastic.

Thank you to all the wonderful parents who have helped with breakfast thus far, especially to Mrs Salvia and her helpers (Mrs Hall, Mrs Fabling, Ms Lockwood, Mr Poeira) last Friday as I was not able to stay due to some work deadlines which needed to be met (hate daylight saving!!!). The boys made short work of ham & cheese crossiants, hash browns and scrambled eggs. I also introduced yoghurt last Friday and whilst not all the boys took it up, a dozen boys did, which was wondeful and very encouraging.

This morning we had our famous bacon & scrambled egg sandwiches. Our Monday parents consist of Mr Poeira & Mrs Lauriston with additional help from Mrs Moffat & Mrs Starkie this morning. What a team!!! Everything was done like clockwork and Mrs Moffat had the forks all wrapped for the next 3 breakkys…something I don’t need to do at night…so thank you very much for that.

This Friday we have Mrs Richards and Mrs Braut cooking up another storm and we most likely will be having sausages, hash browns, scrambled eggs, toast and juice for a change, plus I will try the yoghurt again.

The roster for the last few breakfasts:

Roster for the next three weeks is:

Mon 18/11 – Hall & Lauriston
Fri 22/11 – Hall & need help
Mon 25/11 – Braut & Lauriston
Fri 29/11 – Still needing volunteers please – this is our last breakfast for this term.

Now, you probably think I am a sucker for punishment, wishing for next year already, but I am starting to put together a roster for breakfast next year. Training, I believe (and based on past years) will be on a Monday / Wednesday / Friday morning, so if you are available, please email me onmelindang8@gmail.com or sms 0407 989 455 with your dates you are able to manage. If we get lots of helpers / volunteers, I am hoping we can limit your roster to maybe 4 sessions over the 6 week (approximately) period they train (approximately 18-20 sessions of training before inters).

Thank you so much and if your cherub has not told you yet, they do appreciate all the support you give them in their TC endeavours.

Thanking you,
Mel

PS watch this space (and your son’s school bag) as the coaches have something special planned for our swimming team for the new year…..it may even be a swimming first……

Parents & Swimmers

Eggs-Lots

Hello Parents & Swimmers,

Well, we have a constant following of 20 who attend breakfast each week, though we are missing some familiar faces, so please come back.

Last Friday we did pasta for breakky and this is an option I have removed from the breakfast menu. Whilst the boys dug in happily, it is not something they prefer so bring on the bacon and egg sandwiches!!

Thank you to Mrs Salvia and Mrs Richards for their assistance last Friday and to Mr & Mrs Braut and Mrs Lauriston this morning. We made 40+ bacon & scrambled egg sandwiches which 21 hungry swimmers devoured.

So far our swimmers have ploughed through 20 dozen eggs, 20 kgs hash browns, 3 kgs sausages, 3 kgs bacon, 30 croissants, 2kg mince and 2 kgs pasta AND we are only a third of the way through our swimming training this term.

This Friday are ham & cheese croissants, hash browns and juice. On roster we have Mrs Hall and Mrs Fabling. For the next three weeks, Mondays are looking good but we will now have a shortage on a Friday. So, if you can spare an hour on a Friday morning, that would be great.

Roster for the next three weeks is:

11/11 – Poeira & Lauriston
15/11 – Braut & Richards
18/11 – Hall & Lauriston
22/11 – Fabling & need help
25/11 – Braut & Lauriston
29/11 – Need help please.

Thanks so much for your support.

Cheers,
Mel

3 New Faces at Breakfast

orange_juice_splash_400x600

Hi Parents & Swimmers,

We had another 3 new faces at breakfast this morning which was wonderful.   25 out of 27 swimmers at training joined us for bacon & egg, hash browns and juice this morning.   If your son needs to go to another appointment (ie music lessons) please get them to let the coaches know so they can be released early and still come and get breakfast. It is a long morning with no food in their belly and there is nothing more distracting then a rumbling tummy while you are sitting in class.

Thank you to Mr Poeira, Mrs Walsh and Mrs Lauriston for their help this morning. If you are able to spare an hour this Friday, please pop in and join Mrs Richards and I in the kitchen (we will be cooking up a storm of pasta).

If you have any queries or suggestions for the menu, please let me know as I am starting to think about next term and what we can cook.

cheers,
Mel

WOW

Br6Dp

Hi Parents & Swimmers,

WOW….we fed 28 hungry boys Friday morning. We were missing a few of our senior players but our middle school players more than made up for it with 6 new swimming faces joining us.

Thank you to Mrs Fabling & Mrs Salvia for cooking up a storm. Thank you also to Mr Poeira for stopping by to see if we needed a hand.

Next week on the menu is our usually hash browns & juice. On Monday will be bacon and eggs sandwiches and Friday will be pasta. On roster we have:

Monday : Walsh & Lauriston (as we are making sandwiches, if we could have another parent, that would be great)

Friday: Richards (still need another parent for this day please)

To ensure the boys have plenty to eat I have had to re-look at the budget I have allowed for the breakfasts, so on that note, breakfasts will be a flat $3.00 per session. Hopefully by allowing $100 for both term 4 & term 1 2014, that is all that will be needed. Those parents we have already paid $30.00 for the term, do not worry about topping it up right now, wait until we start up again next year.

Thank you again for all your support for our swimmers.

Cheers,
Mel

Swimming Season Breakfast

hameggcheese

Hello Parents & Swimmers,

Well our first breakfast for the 2013/14 Swimming Season was enjoyed this morning. We had 22 very hungry boys plow through scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast, sausages and juice. There were bananas on offer but alas, the fruit only got a half a dozen followers.

This Friday the boys will be enjoying ham & cheese crossiants, scrambled eggs, hash browns, juice and yes, that thing in yellow skin called a banana. Hopefully, there will be more takers for the fruit.

Thankyou to Mr Soares, Mr & Mrs Braut and Mrs Lauriston for their assistance with preparing and serving breakfast this morning. There was a minor hiccup in the kitchen but Mr Braut came to the rescue with his make shift BBQ.

Also, thankyou to all the parents who have prepaid for term 4, it makes it so much easier not having to worry about collecting monies. Those who have not paid, please let me know if you wish to prepay and I can email you my account details or send along the monies with your son on Friday.

This Friday we have the lovely Mrs Fabling & Mrs Salvia whipping up breakfast but if you are eager to see the boys smiling faces when they see what is being served for breakfast, please let me know and I can put you on the roster – as many hands make light work or just turn up at the kitchen (Gibney Hall), there will always be a job waiting.

We are still in need of helpers on Monday mornings. If you can only stay for the hour, then that is good too.

Cheers for now,
Mel Ng
