Swimming Update Week 1 Term 1

The racing season begins!

I will endeavour to write one update each week to keep parents informed and also to help motivate, cajole and bludgeon those who are less ‘active’ to join our quest.

1) Holiday Training.

As holiday training finishes for another year, it is appropriate to assess the effectiveness of the training statistically.

holidayNumbers

What do these statistics tell us?

Attendances are up by 60% which shows a great engagement in our holiday programme.
Yr 12’s and 11’s have by enlarge stopped attending holiday sessions, which is a real concern.
The Yr 8,9 and 10 team is really hungry for success. They are keen to be part of our team.

In my experience this is a very healthy picture of a team that will fulfil it’s potential in 2017 and 18, but who’s leaders are happy to let 2016 slip by them. I implore the Yr 12 and 11 teams to step up and make the commitment to the next 6 weeks.
I don’t know how to be any more clear- We have a genuine chance this year and it’s not too late.

SENIOR BOYS-GET OFF YOUR BACKSIDE AND HELP US!!!

2) Wesley Meet

A few parents have enquired about swim meets.

The TC vs Wesley meet is this Saturday at Trinity.

Please be at the pool at 3.45. The Warm up will commence at 4pm sharp and racing will start at 4.40.
Traditionally, this meet takes about 90 min, but will depend on numbers.

All swimmers Yr 7-12 are expected to attend, except by prior arrangement.

3) Time trials

A great turn out for time trials last Friday 40+ swimmers. Don’t expect to pb often at these meets, as they are ‘in season’ trials and used more to gain racing experience and skills.

4) In school championships

The PCG and Age Champs will be run during school time in Week 3 and 4. Parents are welcome to attend.

5) Breakfasts

I believe the volunteer roster is filling fast, but more people are required urgently for Week 1 and 2.

6) Mercedes training

A new social initiative is being set up for 2016, between TC and Mercedes swim teams. During week 4, (Feb 22nd and 26th ) we will be splitting our Monday and Friday sessions between the two schools.

This means that once during that week, your training will be at Mercedes pool. Boys at MC for the morning will finish a little early, so we can walk back to TC for breakfast. We think this will be a great initiative for both the boys and girls, but if it causes inconvenience for your family, please just turn up to training at TC as normal. More details to follow.

Monday 22/2/16
Years 7/8’s @ MC pool 6:30-7:45am
Years 9/10/11/12 @ TC pool 6:30-7:45am

Friday 26/2/16
Years 7/8’s @ TC pool 6:30-7:45am
Years 9/10/11/12 @ MC pool 6:30-7:45am

7) Overview

It is so exciting to feel the energy in the swim team at the moment. I really would like to see more of our seniors supporting their school and the team by attending training regularly.
I believe that we can be an amazing team on March 10th and we need to be training with purpose and determination.

@ Trinity College

Hi everybody, welcome back to the official 2017 swim season.

Warm up – 4pm

Racing Starts 4.30pm

This will allow the Wesley boarders time to get back for dinner.

This meet marks the beginning of our racing season and I’d love to see the whole team in attendance.

We encourage boys to wear TC bathers and their TC cap for team unity. However it is not a requirement until the Quads meet.

Please bring your bathers, cap, water bottle, towel and a winning attitude!

Only 13 training sessions until Inters!
