Swimming Talent ID Day

Western Swimming Club

Dear Parents of TC Junior Swim Team

The Trinity Swim Team would like to extend an invitation to your son to attend a number of events over the next few months, in preparation for the  2020 JSSA Inters (and PSA Inters for those moving in to Yr 7).

The coaching staff and management of the swim team are making a concerted effort to increase opportunities for Junior School swimmers to participate in team events and to incorporate into the broader structure of the swim team. Swimming is one of the few activities that can present an integrated, ‘whole of school’, programme for the boys to experience. As such, we would like to begin the process of creating a ‘one team’ outlook to the programme, which allows the boys to seamlessly transition from year to year, junior to senior school etc.

To kick the process off, we would like to invite your son to join us at any of the following events;

  1. Team Time Trials (Yr 6 Only)- November 8th @ Trinity College 6.30-7.45am. This is an opportunity to do a few time trials with the senior boys before Orientation Day and summer training.
  2. Talent ID Day (Yr 4-6)- November 10th @ Trinity College 9.30am-12.00pm. Hosted by Western Sprint SC (see attached). This is a community event to encourage swimmers to attend TC. The value to the TC swimmer is to participate in a ‘draft combine’ style testing protocol, have fun and win some prizes. Cost- FREE for TC students. Email me by Wednesday, November 6th, if you want to enrol.
  3. Join the Swim Team mailing list/blog. www.trinitycollegeswim.wordpress.com . Currently, this site distributes all of the vital information to the TC Senior Swim Team, but we are working hard to make it a whole team blog.
  4. Competitive Pool Lifesaving- we are commencing a pool lifesaving competitive group. This group will train once per week (Wednesday at 4.30pm) to improve competitive lifesaving skills. The National Championships are being held in Perth and TC will be entering a team. The Nationals team is only for 14yrs+ but there are a number of competitions held around town for those who are interested.
  5. TC Swim Competition- we are organising a TC vs PC swim meet (including Yr 4-6) before the end of the term. It is a busy time, so the date/venue is yet to be decided, but we will post it on the swim team website and all will be welcome.

I’ll anticipate a few questions and try to answer.

Trinity is a busy place. Do I have to be involved? No. There is no expectation that you join, but it’s better to know and choose not to join, than want to join and not know-how.

Are the JS boys looked after? Yes, the team coaches will always look out for the junior boys and a senior swimmer will be assigned as a mentor.

My son already swims with a club. Can he still be involved? The TC swim team is open to all TC swimmers. You are not obliged to move clubs to participate in any of the team activities. Our club of choice is Western Sprint and we’d love to have everyone swimming together, but there is no requirement.

Can non-TC friends and siblings join the Talent ID Day? Yes. Same process but they will need to pay their $20 and be in Yr 4-6.

My son is already in after school squads/Western Sprint, are these events extra? Yes, but optional. We’re all busy and there’s no pressure to prioritise this above anything else. However, the offer is there for the boys if they want it.

Any other questions, please email me at SwimSchool@trinity.wa.edu.au

Hope to see the boys on Friday &/or Sunday.
